The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Finance  for the Miami Area Command, located in Miami, Florida. 
 

Job Summary

Plans, develops, manages, and controls the day-to-day operations of the accounting, finance, and personnel functions for an Area Command or large Corps; serves as liaison and financial advisor to the local units, Advisory Boards, Divisional Headquarters, and Territorial Headquarters by reporting the financial status and researching financial discrepancies; manages and monitors all general ledger, purchasing, budgetary, and personnel functions; ensures all accounting and financial functions are in compliance with The Salvation Army policy as well as local, state, and federal regulations; ensures the accuracy, completeness, timeliness and integrity of all financial reporting. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and practices of general business administration with special concentration in accounting, finance and bookkeeping. Knowledge of the entire process of financial statement preparation.  Knowledge of modern and accepted accounting concepts, techniques, and principles.  Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel supervision.

Ability to provide effective leadership to subordinates, maintain a variety of internal and external contacts and work cooperatively with superior and subordinate staff.  Ability to plan, develop and initiate effective and efficient bookkeeping practices and methods in order to increase accuracy and timeliness of financial recording and reporting.  Analytical ability to plan work schedules, evaluate work performances, and provide input on budget planning.  Ability to examine the bookkeeping work performed by subordinates in order to detect errors or omissions.  Ability to effectively lead subordinates, resolve minor complaints, and deal with day to day occurrences.  Ability to prepare complex financial reports and records.  Ability to accept fiscal responsibility of all functionalized accounts..

 

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a relate field, and five years progressively responsible experience performing complex and varied accounting and bookkeeping functions for an organization with at least two years in a supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to perform complex financial computations necessary to obtain totals, balances, and verify information from complex forms.  Ability to analyze, integrate and interpret financial data from various sources, and to plan, develop and implement responsible strategies.  Ability to make sound, local interpretations of policy and regulations and to make decisions quickly.  Ability to manage mental/visual fatigue associated with sustained concentration in addition to adhering to deadlines established for reports, etc. and frequent breaks in concentration caused by interruption from staff requiring assistance.

Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.  Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
