Safety Manager

The Safety Manager position is responsible for the development and coordination of all safety and loss control functions of the organization.  Responsibilities include creating and ensuring execution of the safety culture in all company locations and directing the efficient handling of all workers’ compensation, automobile and property insurance claims to mitigate risk and loss.  


  • Identify the aspects needed to establish a true safety culture, identify and fill gaps, and drive accountability deep into the organization

  • Develop and coordinate safety training in all company branch and distribution center locations, including new hire, annual, follow up and forklift training.

  • Maintain safety training records and safety related reports.

  • Communicate effectively among all levels of the organization and with vendors, customers and governmental agencies.

  • Oversee the management of all workers compensation, automobile and property insurance claims.

  • Oversee and facilitate the return to work program.

  • Effectively communicate Safety related information to all employees.

  • Conduct safety audits of the work sites and facilities to identify and resolve any unsafe working conditions or practices.

  • Study and recommend the purchase of insurance programs to align with company needs.

  • Manage the relationships with third party service providers including brokers and insurers.

  • Prepare loss analyses, identify exposures and provide recommendations to leadership.

  • Manage an effective, cost-conscious team

Knowledge, Training, Experience and Competencies Required:

  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in a Risk and Safety Management role in a similar industry.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or Risk Management or related field.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT and Workers Compensation regulations.

  • Advanced computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office products including Excel.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to promote and manage change professionally throughout all levels of the organization.

  • Advanced time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship and teamwork skills.

  • Strong customer service commitment.

  • Ability to accommodate travel 40 - 50%+ of the time.

  • Location:  Anywhere, USA, Preference for location to be near major airport
