Responsible for cooking and maintaining all food related services for the Flames of Recovery House.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for cooking three meals daily for 30 or more clients and special events.
Researches and plans nutritional menus.
Prepares and processes purchase orders for procuring food and non-food items for the kitchen; enters received items to maintain accurate records of purchasing, issuing, inventory, and costing. Generates sufficient accounting data to provide management with necessary information.
Conducts monthly inventories; generates reports and audits data accuracy; ensures correct food service costing; submits inventory and cost reports.
Ensures safe and sanitary kitchen operations and procedures; maintains standards for safe food storage and preparation.
Maintains sanitation and safety standards, monitors compliance with health codes and certification requirements; alerts supervisor of needed improvements and recommends solutions.
The Cook will need to ensure and instruct that only authorized kitchen personnel enter and remain in the kitchen to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
Uses time effectively, getting food to the clients at scheduled meal times. In addition, getting cleaning and sanitation completed, dishes washed in timely manner and food order put away.
Creates snack and food bags and distributes to clients.
Assists other Flames of Recovery staff with duties, if needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position has no supervisory duties.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 18 months cooking experience; or satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience, however previous cook experience is required. Must have current valid Food Handlers license.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Licenses or Certificates
Food handler’s permit required.
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver’s license. Driver’s license must not contain any restrictions that would prevent the employee from driving a GSA vehicle.
Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work is performed in a kitchen setting.
