Peer Specialist - Pathways Wellness Center
Liberty Resources, a leader in behavioral health services in Madison and surrounding counties, is seeking a Peer Specialist for the Pathways Wellness Center. The Pathways Wellness Center provides peer support to adults living in Madison County who may be experiencing barriers to achieving their personal wellness and recovery goals. The Pathways program is an Office of Mental Health designated recovery center and is operated by a collection of peers and volunteers who have experienced their own life challenges.
The Peer Specialist will provide individualized support to peers receiving services from the Recovery Center. Peers assist individuals with navigating the ever changing and complicated network of services, acquiring benefits, developing natural supports and social relationships, and achieving their life goals. Peer Specialists will work closely with individuals to connect them with a range of resources within the community that will enable them to explore their interests and recovery needs.
1. Draw on knowledge and skills
acquired from personal experience with the mental health, medical, and
substance abuse systems with a focus on the personal recovery process.
2. Act as a positive role model
for individuals and work to expand and integrate them into the community
3. Share responsibility with peers across the
agency to answer a warm line for individuals in need of peer support.
4. Participate in the decision
making, design, and operation of the Recovery Center.
5. Completes all necessary written reports, case files and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
Must possess at minimum a high school diploma; experience in a behavioral health or related setting is preferred. Must self-identify as a peer in recovery who is a former or current recipient of mental health services, and is willing to share their personal lived experience appropriately and respectfully. Possesses a NYS Peer Recovery Specialist Certification or willing to obtain a provisional certification within six months of hire and full certification within one year of hire.
Required Skills and Abilities
Sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision. The ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving and de-escalation skills to assist with creating and maintaining an environment that promotes recovery. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and lift objects of up to 20lbs as required.
