The full-time Mechanic with the Parks Division is responsible for professional repairs to a fleet of trucks and a variety of construction, landscape, and maintenance equipment.

Hiring Range: $23.43 - $26.62 per hour

 

Work Schedule

  • Typical work week is Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays when required

 

Position Summary and Job Duties

  • Analyzes all types of vehicles and equipment for need of repairs; analysis may involve diagnostic computer software for vehicle engine, transmission, and anti-lock brake systems
  • Performs repairs on all types of engines
  • Performs repairs to drive train, electrical and hydraulic systems, and all other systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Performs routine maintenance of all types on vehicles and equipment
  • Performs repairs on various pieces of small equipment
  • Repairs tires and tubes
  • Paints vehicles and equipment
  • Welds and brazes on vehicles and equipment
  • Makes service calls; repairs vehicles and equipment broken down while in service
  • Determines operational status of equipment or immediate placing of equipment out of service
  • Identifies parts, materials, and supplies to be ordered to complete maintenance and repairs
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which may include plowing and salting parkways, multi-use trails, and parking lots, or any general activities involved in the maintenance of parks

 

Success Factors

  • Knowledge of all major mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems found on larger trucks and turf equipment
  • Knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of all types of internal combustion engines, components, and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures applicable to maintenance shops and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to recognize, diagnose, and perform repairs and maintenance on all types of engines, components, and systems on vehicles and equipment; emphasis will be placed on knowledge of diesel engines and associated systems
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation, including ability to complete research, purchase tools, parts, and equipment, and electronically log equipment maintenance/repairs
  • Ability to use email for communication
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to physically perform the functions necessary for the job
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a timely and efficient manner to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment

 

Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required;
  • Supplemented by additional training or secondary education in gasoline and diesel engine repair;
  • Or, any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Licenses or Certifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire, with acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Classes A-B-C-D, within 6 months of hire date
