Description: With limited supervision, collects money judgments through utilization of judgment enforcement mechanisms available to judgment creditors as outlined in Civil Practice Law and Rules (CPLR) and in full compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Act. Prior experience in general litigation or specifically in legal post-judgment collections is preferred.
Conducts searches for debtors and their assets
Determines when files are not collectable or require further action from attorney
Maintains accurate file records and consistently performs file review process
Ordering various reports relative to collections proceedings
Prepare and send demand letters
Skiptrace to obtain addresses on new files as needed
Prepares summons and complaints, and sends them out for service to the appropriate process server
Completes service with payments to process servers, as well as preparing Affidavits of Mailing
Sets default dates for all files that have had service completed
Prepares and sends Affidavits of Facts to clients for their signature
Prepares Default Judgments for Supreme and City Courts
Prepares Orders and Affirmations for City Court judge’s signature for approval of attorney’s fees
2+ years office experience; collections background in a legal environment preferred.
Associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred
Proofreading skills and attention to detail is required
Proficiency in MS Office required
Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
Demonstrates consistent logic, rationality, and objectivity in decision making
Effective verbal and written communication, including clear and professional phone skills
Must be proactive and diligent
Must have a professional, cooperative, positive and flexible attitude
