Description: Performs paralegal responsibilities for various attorneys in the educational institutions practice group who provide legal counsel to educational institutions regarding their operations, employees and students. This position will focus on NYS public school districts and their special education matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with document review and production

  • Prepare documents for hearings, including exhibits

  • File maintenance requiring substantial familiarity with digital filing and retrieval

  • Track documentation and procedural developments in numerous separate actions and proceedings

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ legal experience

  • Paralegal certificate preferred

  • Experience with MS Office required

  • Demonstrates good organizational skills for prioritizing workload

  • Demonstrates ability to acquire understanding quickly and absorb new information rapidly

  • Must be able to manage competing priorities

  • Maintains high standards of performance

  • Exhibits conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility

  • Must have a professional, cooperative, positive and flexible attitude

  • Ability to work with diverse personalities within various levels of the organization

  • Excellent client service and listening skills

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to multi-task

  • Exercises sound independent judgment under minimal direct supervision

  • Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently as well as coordinate with a team

  • Exhibits strong oral and written communications skills

  • Frequent utilization of telephone for communication

  • Thorough command of the English language including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style

  • Ability to compose professional correspondence

  • Military experience a plus
