POSITION SUMMARY


The Environmental Technician has the responsibility for day-to-day environmental work, primarily focused on waste disposal, spill response, waste water sampling, fence line monitoring of the plant and other programs/tasks as needed.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct spill response such as soil sampling, clean-up site work coordination and event/observation reporting.
  • Complete waste sampling, characterization and profiling
  • Waste management area inspections
  • Perform satellite accumulation monitoring and inspections of lab waste
  • Coordinate loading/shipment of materials
  • Responsible for waste water:  In-process sampling, Outfall 001 monitoring including catching samples, composite sampling, general maintenance, Bio-solids dewatering, assistance with lab testing
  • Monitor storm water outfall:  catch samples and perform recordkeeping
  • Coordinate with Safety Department on Benzene Fence-line/Process Area Monitoring Program
  • Monitor QQQ/BWON compliance, P trap monitoring, stripper samples and monitoring carbon canister monitoring
  • Preform additional LDAR related work, such as camera surveys, tags, open ended line (OEL) surveys, Turnaround (T/A) unity and vessel clearing, etc.
  • Monitor monthly visual emissions

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Associate degree in Environmental Science or other applicable science degree; or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience working as an Environmental Technician or other science related job  
  • Able to work with environmental specialists, technicians, consultants and contractors as needed
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, talk and hear
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and may occasionally be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and climb stairs and ladders
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to pass pulmonary function testing, fit testing and complete physical examinations as required as required by policy, law or practice

 

NECESSARY ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet functionality
  • Able to work through multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively
