POSITION SUMMARY


Provide the organization with technical expertise on all aspects of the processes and processing techniques used by the refinery to ensure the following:

  • Optimized achievement of the production plan including run rates, yields, and quality of product
  • Safe, environmental-friendly, and reliable operation
  • Utilization of continuous improvement to drive out waste and inefficiency and enhance profitability

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs advanced engineering calculations (i.e., mass balances, energy balances, conversion calculations) to optimize equipment and product quality
  • Gathers, analyzes, interprets, acts upon and disseminates pertinent unit operations data that monitors the performance of the unit
  • Generates and maintains an informational database on pertinent process variables for troubleshooting and optimization
  • Makes recommendations to improve unit yield and/or optimize energy consumption
  • Ensures that the Planning department is aware of current operating constraints
  • Initiates and justifies new projects, additional monitoring, and improvements to the unit
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields as part of optimizing the process
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods to rapidly correct or improve process issues
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines
  • Consults with manager concerning unusual problems and developments including documenting corrective actions
  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects within his/her responsibility area
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment
  • Performs as a staff advisor and consultant to a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment, or a program function
  • Provides daily refinery operations support to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations
  • Maintains awareness of all Safety, Health and Environmental issues that impact the unit, refinery, and personnel
  • Evaluates the economic feasibility of projects assigned and provides Process Engineering services during engineering, construction, and start-up of projects
  • Troubleshoot and correct refinery operations and affects necessary change
  • Provide Process Engineering support during turnaround
  • Ensure processes are producing consistent quality product at the desired run rate and yields
  • Process Engineers support a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation. As such, they must be prepared to work whatever hours needed to maintain a safe, environmentally sound efficient operation
  • Provide additional daily supervisory coverage as needed
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred. Similar degree and commensurate experience will also be considered

     

    NECESSARY ATTRIBUTES

    • Proficient user of MS Office Suite
    • Effective team skills that will make this individual successful in this role
    • Capability of working with all levels of the organization
    • Good communications skills, ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals

     

    POSITION PREFERENCES

    • Experience in lube operation
    • Process simulation experience a plus
    • Capable of demonstrating the necessary leadership that will make this individual successful in this role
    • 3+ years of experience in petroleum refinery, process engineering, chemical manufacturing, operations, and maintenance
