Calumet Specialty Products Partners is seeking a strategic, analytical, and passionate individual capable of driving product execution with supply chain, operations and commercial stakeholders. The Product Director is responsible for supporting the Base Oils business by functioning as a product line steward for the product lines. The Product Director is responsible for identifying, defining and managing priorities for products in the business. The Product Director must be flexible and work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders.



  • Business line strategy development - insight based strategy development for each product line in the base oil business. This includes external research, managing external consultants, facilitating strategy sessions, gaining business line leadership alignment, and ultimately reducing the strategy to executable key initiatives
  • Key initiative execution - take the lead on the tactical execution of some of our identified key initiatives. Act as the “right hand” of the General Manager, to leverage tactical implementation
  • Brand strategy / marketing - conduct and / or lead market research studies including segment and region analysis, customer research, and develop a brand strategy
  • Marketing / communication - develop a strategy to expand the recognition of our products and communicate to our customers. This includes prioritizing trade shows and improving the effectiveness of our participation at these events, I.e. more organized senior level meetings, and customer interactions. This also includes working with our central services marketing organization in brand recognition and advertising activities
  • Product management/new product development - working with our salesforce and our customers, prioritize product development initiatives and growth priorities
  • Product management/pricing - gain insight into the value of our product offering and develop price targets; be the final authority in the business on pricing decisions (including communication strategies)
  • Analysis of product line to help drive profitability and growth
  • Develop market specific strategies and ensuing tactics to grow the overall product lines
  • Work closely with supply chain on supply, demand, and inventory for Base Oils
  • Manage Stage and Gate files within Base Oils
  • Work with Sales on prioritizing opportunity pipelines
  • Keep in tune with market dynamics and trends. Gather market intelligence and keep abreast of competitive activities, make product line strategy adjustment recommendations
  • Monitors competitor, customer’s business strategy developments to identify emerging issues. Create effective gap analysis summaries
  • Build and maintain marketing plans, implement and monitor the team’s sales execution, and coordinate internal strategies for each product line
  • Analyze sales results and market information pertaining to product lines
  • Create presentations which summarize marketing and sales results
  • Develop the demographics, pricing strategy, supply chain strategy, competitor strategy, and campaign plan for product lines
  • Coordinate industry team meetings and product line trainings



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years in business in a leadership role
  • 10+ years of experience in petroleum products, specifically base and lubricating oils
  • Knowledge of petroleum market, base oils in particular
  • Estimated 10% travel



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Effective in working across all levels of the company to obtain buy in and produce timely, relevant results
  • Good time management, detail oriented, provides reports and updates as agreed
  • Demonstrated experience in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment. Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to plan projects, analyze information, and execute to achieve agreed upon results



  • MBA
  • 5+ years of experience driving product execution with supply chain, operations and commercial stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of product and new product development marketing
