Analytical Chemist - Organic

SpecPro Professional Services, LLC. (SPS) is seeking a Mid-Level Chemist to provide support with analytical chemistry efforts to support aquatic toxicology research. You will be working in support of SPS’s contract with the USEPA’s Laboratory in Duluth, MN. Although this is a full time position, funding is typically on a yearly basis with EPA.

Primary Duties:

Lead the SPS analytical chemistry efforts in support of analysis of priority EPA chemicals such as PFAS and others.

• Implement state-of-the-science GC and LC mass spectrometric analytical techniques.
• Incorporate instrument troubleshooting as needed to produce high quality data.
• Operate and maintain analytical instruments and prepare chemical reagents related to these analyses.
• Perform data analysis and quality assurance reviews on produced analytical data.
• Mentor and train junior-level chemistry staff.
• Provide analytical support for toxicity testing (exposed specimens and exposure media) involving chemical analysis, summarizing the chemistry data, and quality assurance.
• Develop and prepare written technical protocols for collecting and processing samples.
• Attend and participate in research planning and technical meetings as necessary to achieve task goals.

Required Qualifications/Skills:  

• Experience analyzing organic chemicals using state of the art instrumentation and methods.
• Experience troubleshooting analytical instrumentation such as GC and LC mass spectrometers.
• Experience writing protocols for collecting, processing, and analyzing samples.
• Experience reviewing analytical data for quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 

• Analytical expertise with PFAS chemicals.
• Author or co-author in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Experience supervising junior level staff.

Education/Experience Requirement:

• Master of Science degree with experience in analytical chemistry.

Special Requirements/Certifications:

Must pass corporate and federal background checks. Federal background checks take 6 weeks. Must have a valid driver’s license.
